Westport Heights is a single track LEARN school located in the Westchester area of Los Angeles, California. Westchester is home to the Los Angeles International Airport, and Loyola-Marymount University.
Our student body is comprised of African American, Hispanic, Anglo, Filipino, Asian, Ethiopian and other ethnic backgrounds. English is the predominant language, 23% of our students speak languages other than English, Spanish being the most prominent. We have an average enrollment of 500 students in 27 classrooms. The instructional program is structured to meet the needs of our diverse populations which include: Gifted and Talented Education (GATE), English Learners (EL), Extended Learning Program (ELP), Student Success Team (SST), and a Resource Specialist Program (RSP).
Our teachers have weekly collaborative instructional planning with the assistance of a full-time Literacy Coach and a half-time Math Coach. Coaches provide additional support in the implementation of the Open Court 2002 reading series and the Scott Foresman math program. Evaluation of student assessment data and developing intervention strategies are also discussed during the instructional planning time.
